KOREAN WAR VETERANS |
|
| Washington, D.C. — Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC)
today announced that he will be awarding commemorative pins to all veterans
in the Third District of North Carolina who honorably served the United
States during the Korean War.
The pins are being provided by the Department of Defense to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the war, which has become known as the “Forgotten War.” “This pin is just a small token to recognize the tremendous sacrifices made by the brave men and women who proudly served our nation at war,” Jones said. The Korean War lasted from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953. During that time, more than 54,000 Americans died serving their country; 33,651 were killed in action. In addition, more than 103,000 Americans were wounded, 8,177 were declared missing in action and 7,140 were prisoners of war. Any veteran who honorably served during the Korean War era is eligible to receive the commemorative pin. Spouses or families of deceased veterans who served during the Korean War are also entitled to receive a pin. Interested veterans or relatives should contact Congressman Jones’ Greenville office at 1-800-351-1697. Veterans or family members of veterans will be asked to provide their name, address, telephone number, dates and branch of service, and where they served. Plans are underway to award the pins at a special ceremony this fall. |
