Awarded in Recognition of his Superb Voting Record |
|
| Washington, D.C. — Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC)
recently received the Senior Legislative Achievement Award. Rep.
Jones was honored in recognition of his commitment to our nation’s senior
citizens displayed through his outstanding support for seniors and issues
that concern them.
“I am honored to accept this award,” Rep. Jones stated. “It is important that we continue to work towards protecting the rights of our seniors, and I can promise my constituents that the interests of seniors will remain a high priority as I serve them in Congress. My colleagues and I will persist in our efforts to protect Social Security, provide a sound Medicare prescription drug benefit, and repeal the death tax once and for all.” “Congressman Jones has been a courageous fighter for seniors,” said Mary Martin, chairman of the board and executive director of The Seniors Coalition. “That’s why we have decided to honor him with this award. We agree with Mr. Jones that America’s seniors benefit when they have more freedoms, more choices, and more control over their own lives.” The Coalition’s Senior Congress team awarded Jones at the Brownstone
Hotel in Raleigh, North Carolina at a public ceremony. The Seniors
Coalition is a non-profit, non-partisan, seniors advocacy organization.
Flora “Grandma” Green presented the award to Congressman Jones. Mrs.
Green is a 78-year-old political activist who recently toured the nation
to advocate seniors’ concerns.
