REP. MYRICK RECEIVES CHAMPION FOR

CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARD

 

(Washington, D.C.) – On Wednesday, June 16, 2004, Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) was awarded the “Champion for Childhood Cancer Award” by the CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation.  Rep. Myrick received the award at the CureSearch Gold Ribbon Days Congressional Reception in Washington, DC for her leadership in the House Cancer Caucus. 

Rep. Myrick was presented the award by Nicholas Marriam, an 11 year old boy from Clayton, NC.  Nicholas was diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer in children, in 1999.  He is currently in remission, and does projects every year for other children with life threatening illnesses. 

 Rep. Myrick is a breast cancer survivor of four years.  She is Co-Chair of the House Cancer Caucus and has been a national spokesperson for cancer causes advocating the importance of early detection and cancer research.
