(Washington, D.C.) – On Sunday, February 13, 2005, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick (NC-9) was featured in a NY Times article on her efforts to put a lid on federal spending. Along with the article, a chart was featured that compared the fiscal conservatism of the Republican class of 1995 with their records in the 108th Congress (’02-’04). According to the article, Rep. Myrick, along with Rep. Steve Chabot of Ohio, were the only two Members from the class of 1995 that are still supporting more bills that would cut federal spending rather than increase it. In fact, Rep. Myrick advocated for more spending cuts in the 108th Congress than she did in the 104th Congress. The National Taxpayer Union (NTU) has recently published its report on the 108th Congress. In the federal spending portion of the report, the NTU states that Rep. Myrick had the most fiscally conservative agenda in both the U.S. House and Senate. National Journal scores key votes each year and weighs those votes to determine where Members of Congress are on the political spectrum. Rep. Myrick received a 92.2% Conservative rating. National Journal ranks her the most conservative Member of the North Carolina Congressional delegation, a title which she has held since 2002.
