WASHINGTON, DC - U.S Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed a landmark immigration bill, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 (S.744), by a vote of 68-32:
"The Senate’s strong bipartisan vote is a huge victory for this country. Our nation is built on generations of hardworking immigrants that came to our shores in search of the American dream. Today, we are one step closer to making that dream a reality. As the grandson of immigrants and representing one of the most diverse districts in our country, I know how important it is to fix our broken immigration system.
The Senate bill is by no means perfect, but it rightly balances a pathway to citizenship. It brings undocumented immigrants out of the shadows with enhanced border security measures to ensure the enforcement of our immigration laws. I demand that the House put aside partisan politics and do what's right for hardworking families across our nation.”
