Massapequa Park, New York - Congressman Peter T. King (R-Seaford) is now accepting requests from individuals seeking a nomination to one of the U.S. service academies: the United States Military Academy, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy.
“In order to receive an appointment to attend one of the U.S. service academies, students must first receive a nomination from a Member of Congress,” Congressman King stated. “Those receiving nominations and appointments to the service academies must exhibit strength in character, academics, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, and motivation.”
According to Congressman King, to be eligible for a nomination, applicants must be American citizens, at least 17 and not more than 23 years of age on July 1, 2009 and legal residents of the Third Congressional District of New York.
The nomination process is conducted by a Service Academy Selection Committee appointed by Congressman King.
“The U.S. service academies play a key role in developing many of our nation’s finest leaders,” Congressman King said. “Obtaining a Congressional nomination is the first step towards developing those leaders.”
