Nadler Works to Bring Transit Dollars into New York City

$274.3 Million in Stimulus Funds Secured for the Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08) announced $274.3 million in federal stimulus funding for two major U.S. Department of Transportation projects in New York City. These federal dollars, secured through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be immediately put toward construction of the Second Avenue Subway in Manhattan and the Long Island Rail Road East Side Access between Manhattan and Queens. Rep. Nadler has been a major advocate of both projects.

“This significant sum of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars will comprise a critical portion of overall funding for these two essential New York transportation projects,” said Rep. Nadler. “I have proudly fought for funding for the Second Avenue Subway and the East Side Access project for years. These crucial infrastructure initiatives will greatly increase transportation efficiency, access and ridership in the region. This will not only benefit our environment and assuage traffic issues, but will spur job growth and economic development for all New Yorkers.”

This funding specifically includes:

• $195.4 million for Long Island Rail Road East Side Access

• $78.9 million for Second Avenue Subway, Phase I
