NEW YORK -
CONG. CHARLES RANGEL AND TEACHERS COLLEGE PRESIDENT ARTHUR LEVINE TO CALL FOR GREATER INCENTIVES FOR EXCELLENT TEACHERS TO WORK IN THE CITY'S MOST CHALLENGING SCHOOLS
When: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 6
Where: P.S. 123, 301 W. 140th Street, west of Frederick Douglass Blvd.
Who: Congressman Charles Rangel Arthur Levine, President, Teachers College, Columbia University David Jones, President, Community Service Society Dr. Lorraine Monroe, Founder, Lorraine Monroe Leadership Institute Darlyne Bailey, VP of Academic Affairs and Dean of Teachers College
Cong. Rangel and President Levine are issuing their call as contract negotiations continue between New York City and the United Federation of Teachers. Both sides have affirmed, in principle, the idea of bringing better teachers into the schools that need them most. But an ultimate agreement will probably require the union to allow its senior-most teachers to be assigned to more difficult schools, while the city will likely be compelled to offer pay increases in exchange.
