WASHINGTON - Congressman Charles Rangel and New York Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning joined international relief organization Feed The Children and more than a dozen community organizations to distribute food and personal care items to needy Northern Manhattan families on Monday, June 19, 2006.
"It is a sad fact that despite their hard work, too many families in my district and across the nation still find themselves without enough food, " said Congressman Rangel. "On behalf of our community, I extend my appreciation to Feed The Children Director Rev. Larry James and the NFL Player's Association for providing a much needed helping hand."
Items were distributed to close to 800 pre-identified families at the distribution site on 175th Street between St. Nicholas and Audubon Avenues.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to team up with Feed The Children for such a noble cause," said Manning. "Although hunger affects thousands of individuals all over the world, we tend to forget about those who are suffering right here in our own backyards."
