Lucas Supports All of the Above Energy Legislation, Opposes National Energy Tax

Washington, DC - This week, Congressman Frank Lucas joined many of his colleagues to support H.R. 2300, the American Energy Innovation Act.  The American Energy Innovation Act was introduced in response to the Waxman-Markey energy legislation, currently being considered by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which would institute a national energy tax through the cap-and-trade provision.

“As President Obama and Speaker Pelosi work to institute the largest national energy tax in our country’s history, I have been working closely with my colleagues to offer a better alternative,” stated Lucas.  “This comprehensive legislation will work to lessen our dependency on foreign oil, create American jobs, and promote energy efficiency.”

The American Energy Innovation Act creates a fiscally responsible approach to reducing our dependence on foreign oil by using all forms of energy available in this country.  It will encourage innovation in renewable fuels, promote conservation of energy, and increase the production of all forms of American made energy.

“There is not one simple answer to solving this country’s energy problem,” stated Lucas.  “That is why we need an all-of-the-above solution.  The American Energy Innovation Act will ensure that we develop all forms of American-made energy while encouraging conservation without levying a massive energy tax on the American people.”

The legislation has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Natural Resources Committee, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the House Science and Technology Committee, the House Rules Committee, and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.  It was introduced by Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01).  No hearings or markups have been set.
