Washington, DC -- Congresswoman Mary Fallin (OK-05) conducted a live video “Town Hall” meeting over the internet today with Seminole officials, local Chamber of Commerce members and students and faculty from Seminole State College. Fallin addressed concerns over the economy, gas prices, illegal immigration and healthcare. The event took place during what the federal government has designated “Small Business Week” and Fallin was quick to point out these issues are of particular concern to Oklahoma’s small business owners and employees. She also praised Seminole State’s Rural Business and Resource Center, a program that has successfully aided small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs in Oklahoma. Fallin and participants at Seminole State College were able to see and hear each other using internet based teleconference technology. She released the following statement after the event: “Seminole residents expressed the same concern over our economy that I hear all over Oklahoma. As I outlined during today’s Town Hall meeting, I think there are several steps we can do to move towards a healthier and more secure economy for our families. “We can increase the domestic production of energy to drive down gas prices. We can cut unnecessary spending and move towards a balanced budget without increasing taxes. Finally, we can support measures that will make it easier for small businesses, which provide jobs to 50% of Oklahoma’s workforce, to offer their employees health insurance. “I was extremely pleased to be able to use this exciting new technology to communicate with constituents at Seminole State College and the surrounding area. I look forward to taking advantage of similar opportunities in the future.” ### |
