Walden to Visit Southern Oregon
March 22-23

 
 

Events to include free Medicare prescription drug workshop, meetings with local government and Gateway Rotary

 

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Greg Walden (R-OR) will return to southern Oregon next Wednesday and Thursday, March 22nd and 23rd, to host events and meetings in Jackson and Josephine Counties.  In addition to his free workshop on the new Medicare prescription drug benefit being held in Medford on the 23rd, Walden, co-chair of the bipartisan House Rural Health Care Coalition, will meet with local residents and community leaders to discuss issues important to the region.  This visit is part of Walden’s 267th round trip between Oregon and Washington, D.C. and his 73rd trip to Southern Oregon since taking office in 1999.  His schedule is as follows:

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22
SHADY COVE
4:30 – 5:15 PM:
Congressman Walden will meet with Shady Cove Mayor Dick Bailey to discuss issues currently pending before Congress, including implementation of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act, the fight against methamphetamine in rural communities, and Walden’s Forest Emergency Recovery and Research Act, legislation to provide federal land managers the tools necessary to act in a timely and responsible manner in recovering forest health following catastrophic events in our federal forests. 

THURSDAY, MARCH 23
MEDFORD
9:00 – 11:00 AM:
In an effort to help southern Oregon seniors better understand the new Medicare prescription drug program as the enrollment deadline – May 15 – approaches, Congressman Walden will host a free workshop open to area seniors and their loved ones.  Joining Walden at the workshop will be Health and Human Services Region X Director James Whitfield and representatives from the Oregon Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) program.  Following an educational presentation at the beginning of the workshop, one-on-one enrollment counseling conducted by trained SHIBA volunteers will be available for those interested.  Additionally, information on various plan options will be made available by plan providers.  The workshop will last until noon.  Location: Reston Hotel – Pacific Ballroom – 2250 Biddle Road – Medford.

GRANTS PASS
Noon – 1:00 PM:
Walden, a member of the Hood River Rotary, will join the Gateway Rotary Club for their luncheon meeting to update members of the club on current activities in Congress and take questions from the audience.  Walden will discuss reauthorization of the critical “county payments” law and the Forest Emergency Recovery and Research Act, bills of which Walden is the chief sponsor, and other issues of importance to the region.  

Congressman Walden is in his fourth term representing the people of Oregon’s Second Congressional District, which includes 20 counties in southern, central and eastern Oregon.  He is a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce as well as the Committee on Resources.
