Rep. Pitts Earns Defender of Economic Freedom Award
Pitts given award for record of pro-economic growth votes
Washington- This week, the Club for Growth awarded Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) the Defender of Economic Freedom Award for his voting record in support of pro-economic growth policies. Rep. Pitts earned a 92 percent on the votes scored by Club for Growth, placing him in the top ten percent of House Members for his pro-growth votes.
Congressman Pitts’ statement follows:
“I am pleased to be labeled as a Defender of Economic Freedom. Washington has plenty of special interests, government bureaucrats, and tax-and-spend liberals that are watching out for the interests of big government. I am here to watch out for the economic interests of my constituents—and that means smaller government and less taxes."
Background
The Club for Growth conducted a comprehensive examination of each lawmaker's record on pro-growth policies and computed an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100. Those lawmakers scoring 90 or higher receive the Defender of Economic Freedom award. The rating examines legislative actions that reflect the group’s immediate pro-economic growth policy goals, including: making the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent; cutting and limiting government spending; Social Security reform; expanding free trade; and legal reform to end abusive lawsuits.
