LANGEVIN STATEMENT ON GENERAL DYNAMICS/ NEWPORT
NEWS MERGER

(WASHINGTON, D.C.)-Congressman Jim Langevin, a member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, today offered the following statement regarding the proposed merger of General Dynamics and Newport News Shipbuilding.

“I have been assured by General Dynamics that Rhode Islanders will continue to build the nation's submarine fleet here in our back yards and that no layoffs are scheduled as a result of this merger.

Submarine construction has a long and distinguished history in Rhode Island.  As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am proud that Rhode Island workers will continue to forge ahead with innovative technology that provides safety and transportation to our military personnel.

According to General Dynamics, this merger will provide significant savings for the government, benefiting both employees and taxpayers.”
