Brown Encouraged by Boeing Announcement

WASHINGTON- After The Boeing Company announced that they will file for the permits necessary to build a 787 Dreamliner assembly plant in North Charleston, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC), made the following statement:

“The opportunity for continued growth of such a world-class manufacturer and aerospace giant to the state of South Carolina is good news for the Charleston region and the entire state of South Carolina.

The potential for increasing Boeing’s presence in our state is a massive vote of confidence in the quality of the South Carolina workforce and the support provided by the state and communities involved. I am proud to stand with them to provide the support to ensure that Boeing has all the resources necessary to grow and succeed in the Palmetto State.

The 787 represents an important step forward for commercial aviation, and I am proud that the First District can serve as an important part of its production.”

Boeing recently took control of Vought Aircraft's North Charleston plant, which builds fuselage sections for the 787. That $1 billion deal has raised hopes that they will build a second assembly line for the lightweight new jet in the Lowcountry.

Congressman Brown, as a senior member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, is working diligently with local leaders, corporate representatives and the other members of the South Carolina Delegation to build an open and communicative relationship with The Boeing Company.

As Boeing’s potential expansion in the state is economically beneficial for the First District and all of South Carolina, the Congressman, in close partnership with Senator Lindsey Graham, is consistently providing supportive political representation in Washington with the goal of a positive outcome for all parties involved.

Additionally, Congressman Brown, and the rest of the South Carolina Delegation, recently wrote to Mr. James McNerney, Chairman, President and CEO of The Boeing Company, congratulating them on their acquisition of the Vought facility in Charleston and further strengthening the lines of communication between their company and the South Carolina leaders in Washington.
