(Washington, DC) - Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn announced Thursday that the City of North Charleston, the City of Charleston and Charleston County would receive nearly $120,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the renewal of their Rental Certificate/Housing Choice Voucher Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) programs. The North Charleston Housing Authority has been awarded a $40,000 grant. The City of Charleston’s Housing Authority has been granted $45,568, and the Charleston County Housing and Redevelopment Authority has been allocated $33,590.
The FSS program is intended to develop local strategies for families assisted by the Rental Certificate/Housing Choice Voucher programs along with public and private resources to enable them to achieve independence and self-sufficiency.
“Affordable housing is one of the greatest challenges facing the Sixth Congressional District,” Congressman Clyburn said. “Continuing this program is so important because it provides the tools to families receiving housing authority assistance to improve their situation and perhaps one day attain the goal of becoming homeowners.”
