March 12, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis today announced that East Tennessee State University has been awarded $355,000 for a research project on heart and vascular disease research. The grant is administered through the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).  Davis released the following statement after learning on the grant:

This grant will help ETSU provide its students and faculty an excellent opportunity to study health sciences that will ultimately increase the medical care provided throughout Tennessee’s First District,” said Davis.  “It is always a pleasure to see that the Department of Health and Human Services is investing in East Tennessee,” Davis added.

The title of ETSU’s research project is “The Role of Toll-Like Receptor Signaling in Cardiac Ischemia,” and falls into the category of heart and vascular diseases research.
