DAVIS ANNOUNCES HUD GRANT TO JOHNSON CITY

May 6, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis today announced that the Johnson City Housing Authority has received a grant of $286,440 under the Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) grant program.  The grant will provide vouchers to assist in rental payments for homeless veterans as authorized by the United States Housing Act of 1937.

Freedom isn’t free.  It’s not even cheap,” said Davis.  “We are forever indebted to the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform and I am pleased to announce this grant which will undoubtedly help our veterans,” Davis added.

As I announce this grant today, I am reminded of what General Eisenhower said to his troops as they prepared to storm the beaches of Normandy in 1944.  He said, ‘The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.’  I will continue to march and fight for the veterans of our great nation as their needs and issues arise."
