DAVIS MEETS WITH PRESIDENT BUSH

The No More Excuses Energy Act is exactly how it sounds – no more excuses for high gasoline prices

May 7, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis, along with other Members of the Republican Conference, met with President Bush today.  Various policy initiatives were discussed, especially those regarding our nation’s energy policy.  Davis issued the following statement:

Energy prices are the number one issue my constituents are expressing to me,” said Davis.  “As a Representative who takes the word very seriously, I have made it a point to offer my constituents a solution; the No More Excuses Energy Act,” Davis added.

The No More Excuses Energy Act approaches our energy crisis by increasing ALL types of energy production here in the United States.  Until we begin to produce more energy here at home in the United States, we are at the mercy of many unstable energy producers who hate our freedoms and religion.

The No More Excuses Energy Act is exactly how it sounds – no more excuses for high gasoline prices.”

Some highlights of the No More Excuses Energy Act (H.R. 3089) include:
  • Encourages new refinery construction by requiring IRS to take action to allow tax exempt bonds to be used for construction of certain refineries, and make federal lands available for refinery construction.
  • Boosts alternative energy development by extending the Wind Production Tax Credit for 10 years.
  • Lifts the Congressional Moratoria on drilling along the Outer Continental Shelf, potentially providing 17 billion barrels of oil.
  • Opens the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to responsible drilling, potentially producing nearly a million barrels per day for several decades.
