June 12 – Seven exceptional students from Tennessee’s Third Congressional District were appointed by Congressman Zach Wamp to attend our country’s prestigious service academies and will begin their studies this summer.“These students have demonstrated unique leadership qualities and have excelled inside and outside the classroom,” said Congressman Zach Wamp. “They have earned this opportunity and will soon begin the rigorous and challenging education experience of our nation’s service academies to become officers in the military. It is an honor to have nominated these patriotic students who are committed to serving our country.” 

Each year, Congressman Wamp has the privilege of nominating outstanding high school students from Tennessee’s Third District to qualify for appointments to the service academies, including the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.

The seven appointees from Tennessee’s Third District for 2009 include:

William Scott Hughes
– Graduate of McCallie School
– Son of David and Kathleen Hughes of Chattanooga
– Accepted appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy

Thomas Franklin Parks
– Graduate of Baylor School
– Son of Larry and Robin Parks of Lookout Mountain
– Accepted appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy

Gregory Xavier Renner
– Graduate of Oak Ridge High School
– Son of Michael and Karen of Oak Ridge
– Accepted appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy

James Tucker Tipton
– Graduate of Cleveland High School
– Son of Mark and Lori Tipton of Cleveland
– Accepted appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy

Jonathan Chase Hudson
– Graduate of Grace Baptist Academy
– Son of Jon Hudson of California and Kelly Burns of Chattanooga
– Accepted appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point

Robert Andrew Marcum
– Graduate of Cleveland High School
– Son of Robert and Catherine Marcum of Cleveland
– Accepted appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

Katie Lauren Labbe
– Graduate of Notre Dame Academy
