December 6 - We do need an energy bill. I wanted to vote yes on an energy bill, because we need a reasonable increase on Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards so that people will be more fuel efficient, we need incentives for renewable fuels, and we need some energy solutions, but we also need some new energy sources. We need productivity and increased capacity. This bill does not bring that in at all, and it ultimately becomes more of a regulatory bill than an energy bill.
Nuclear is missing from this bill and that is unfortunate. We need more nuclear power to help us with environmental responsibilities, capacity and reducing our reliance on fossil emissions. Renewables need to be promoted.
Bottom line – this is not a comprehensive energy bill. It should be. I hope that the House and the Senate can still get together and that we can do a better job, but this bill wasn’t worth voting for even though there are some good things in this bill. We definitely need an energy bill.
