July 23 – Major General Gus L. Hargett Jr., will continue his active support for the men and women of the National Guard as the president of the National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) after retiring as Tennessee’s top military leader. General Hargett has served our state and country for nearly 47-years in military service. As Tennessee’s Adjutant General for the past seven years, he made extraordinary strides to improve our Army and Air Guard units by modernizing bases and enhancing the quality of life for our Guard members and their families. The Tennessee National Guard has been called upon to serve our country in unprecedented numbers since 9/11 and Gen. Hargett’s leadership has helped make sure Guard units receive the resources they need to successfully accomplish critical missions. Congressman Zach Wamp personally called Gen. Hargett to thank him for his decades of service and offer congratulations for what he will accomplish as president of the NGAUS. Gen. Hargett’s dedication to the Guard and his distinguished military experience will be an invaluable asset as he represents the men and women across the nation who voluntarily serve in the Army and Air National Guard.
