January 8 – Last year, Congressman Zach Wamp had the opportunity to take the lead on veterans’ issues through his appointment as the top “ranking” Republican of the Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies. The House Republican Steering Committee has approved Congressman Wamp to continue that service to our nation’s veterans and maintain his senior role this Congress.
“To recruit and retain our nation’s best soldiers, we must show them that we are dedicated to honoring their commitment and sacrifice both while they are serving and for the rest of their lives,” said Congressman Wamp, who along with Chairman Chet Edwards (D-Texas) will lead the subcommittee. “Being the top Republican on this panel gives me the opportunity to ensure that the promises made to our veterans are being kept and that the quality of life for those serving is as good as possible.”
The subcommittee, commonly referred to as “MilCon-VA,” funds our military installations at home and abroad and resources the important benefits for our nation’s 23 million veterans.
“Serving as ranking member of the Appropriations subcommittee that takes care of our men and women in uniform and the courageous veterans who have ensured our freedom is the highest honor and greatest privilege I have in Congress,” said Congressman Wamp.
In addition to this role, he will continue to serve as the second-most senior Republican on the Subcommittee on Energy and Water, which is essential for programs in East Tennessee such as the Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga and the modernization of the facilities at the Y-12 National Security Complex and the research missions at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
