October 30 – The direction of American nuclear deterrence, strategy and force posture for the next five to 10 years will be decided by the Nuclear Posture Review that is due to Congress by the end of the year. Congressman Zach Wamp met Thursday with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Administrator Thomas D’Agostino to discuss the Nuclear Posture Review and plans to modernize or modify the nuclear weapons complex. Zach continued to stress the need for NNSA to build a Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) at Y-12. UPF is essential for supporting weapons reliability and nuclear nonproliferation activities. As the Uranium Center of Excellence, Y-12 is a world leader in safe handling of nuclear material.
