PRO-LIFE POLICIES AT RISK

January 23  President Barack Obama this afternoon signed an executive order repealing the Mexico City Policy, which had prohibited U.S. tax dollars from funding abortions overseas. The policy was first implemented in 1984, and has been in place continuously since 2001.

“The majority of Americans support restrictions on abortions and do not support having their tax dollars pay for abortions around the world,” said Congressman Zach Wamp.

Congressman Wamp joined Republican Members of the House of Representatives in sending a letter to President Obama asking that he withdraw his pledge to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), which would overturn virtually all pro-life laws nationwide. The letter also requests that he refuse to support legislation that incrementally enacts the FOCA agenda by weakening existing pro-life laws piece by piece.

“The Freedom of Choice Act threatens the progress our nation has made in reducing abortions in this country,” said Congressman Wamp.

Congressman Wamp and other members appealed to President Obama in the letter writing, “You have expressed a desire to be president for all Americans, and to use your presidency to promote initiatives that bring Americans together, rather than drive them apart. We recognize that it will not always be easy for you to do this. However, too much is at state for this divisive and destructive legislation to move forward and life-saving laws to be rolled back.”
