October 26 – The Tennessee Air National Guard broke ground today on a new squadron operations building at its McGhee Tyson base, home to the 134th Air Refueling Wing. Congressman Zach Wamp attended the ceremony today as part of his ongoing support of the growth of the National Guard. A new facility is one of the many ways to help meet the mounting needs and demands placed on the Guard.

“This project was a long time coming, and is a testament to the 134th that it is becoming a reality. It is an important investment in our service members to build the facilities needed to complete their missions,” said Congressman Wamp. “It’s been my highest privilege to serve as Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee and strongly uphold those who serve in uniform and have answered their country’s call to defend our way of life.”

The building will house rooms for flight crew and intelligence briefings, a flight safety office, flight planning classrooms, life support and survival equipment storage among other facilities. The building is currently scheduled to be completed in June 2011.
