Washington, DC - Congresswoman Gwen Moore, a member of the House Budget Committee, today released the following statement on the passage of the concurrent resolution on the Budget for FY 2010:
“The Bush era’s misguided fiscal choices led to American families finding themselves in the midst of a recession as real income levels dramatically fell, more and more people lost their homes, and millions of families fell into poverty.
“The Budget before the House today is a strong starting point to reversing the financial crisis left behind by the Bush Legacy while making key investments in health care, energy independence, and education.
“This budget supports the President’s goal of reforming our current health care system by accommodating future legislation that would expand coverage, improve quality, and curb rising costs.
“Today the economic gap between the haves and have-nots is astounding. More and more young people cannot afford to attend college, which means more people forced to take minimum wage jobs, more people forced into receiving government assistance, and even more people forced into falling into poverty.
“With the economy in its current state, we need to make strategic investments, restore fiscal sustainability, and restore the lives of those Americans who have been most affected by the failed Bush policies.”
