Rebate Checks Coming this Spring
Economic Stimulus Package signed into law, Average Wisconsin Family to receive $957
Checks being mailed beginning in May

I want my constituents to know that as a result of the Economic Stimulus Package passed by Congress, the IRS has announced that taxpayers will begin to see their rebate checks as early as this May.  Over 130 million Americans are set to receive checks from the government over the upcoming spring and summer months.

In order to be eligible for your rebate check, just fill out your 2007 tax return and the IRS will take care of the rest.  In most cases, the payment will equal the amount of tax liability on your tax return up to a maximum amount of $600 per individual and $1,200 per married couple.  The recently passed bill also includes a rebate of $300 for each qualifying child.

[Click Here to see the short IRS Press Release, or Click Here for the IRS’ full 5 page report regarding eligibility requirements and when to expect your check.]

Payments will also be made to many individuals with no tax liability, including low-income workers, and those receiving Social Security benefits or Veterans disability compensation.  These individuals must still file a 2007 tax return in order to get their rebate check.

[Click Here for IRS instructions to Low-Income Workers and Recipients of Social Security and Veterans’ Benefits.  For Low-Income workers needing help filing their taxes, I encourage you to contact one of the following Free Tax Assistance sites that can be found Here.]

Again – in order to get your rebate check, you MUST fill out a 2007 tax return.  Only individuals with a valid Social Security number are eligible for the stimulus payment.

Payments to higher income taxpayers will be reduced by 5 percent of the amount of adjusted gross income above $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for those filing jointly.

I also invite you to go to IRS.gov to calculate your rebate and to check on the status of your payment.
