Washington -- In response to incorrect statements regarding U.S. Representative Barbara Cubin launched yesterday by the Wyoming Democratic Party, Cubin spokesperson Alison McGuire issued the following statement:
"I’m not sure Bill Luckett is even watching the same Congress as the rest of us. Barbara Cubin did in fact vote for the minimum wage increase President Bush signed into law. Twice now, Mr. Luckett has wrongly accused Barbara of opposing the minimum wage increase for hard working Americans. Twice now I’ve had to correct him. A pattern seems to be emerging regarding the accuracy of his statements, and it isn’t a good one.
"The fact is, while Democrats have had over 200 days to finally implement one of the ill-fated promises they campaigned on, the minimum wage hike only passed because Republicans insisted on and secured nearly $5 billion in meaningful tax relief for small business owners. Republicans realize that government sometimes has to watch out for both the job creators who are paying wages and the hard working wage earners.
"Any way you look at it, the American economy is thriving right now, and it’s because of Republican-led, pro-growth fiscal policies. The Dow is surging, our economy has added jobs for 46 straight months, and the deficit is shrinking. Republicans will continue to lead the way on fiscal responsibility by holding the line on spending and fighting to keep taxes low. Meanwhile, Washington Democrats are passing one budget-busting spending bill after another. Maybe Bill Luckett should be attacking them."
