Washington -- U.S. Representative Barbara Cubin (R-WY) applauded the Supreme Court’s decision earlier today to uphold the ban on the gruesome procedure known as “partial-birth abortion.” The court’s 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush in 2003 does not violate the Constitution. Representative Cubin issued the following statement:
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for anyone who values and cherishes the sanctity of human life. Partial birth abortion - during which a child is partially birthed and then stabbed in the head - is a procedure so heinous and grotesque it has absolutely no place in a society that treasures respect, security and freedom from violence. Despite the violence and heartache America's communities must too frequently endure, I believe our nation is indeed that society.
"I supported the Partial Birth Abortion Ban time and again as it came before Congress, and I applaud the Supreme Court for upholding the nationwide ban on partial-birth abortion. Enactment of this law is long over-due."
