Cubin Votes to Uphold President’s Veto

Washington -- U.S. Representative Barbara Cubin released the following statement today after voting to sustain President Bush’s veto of the emergency war spending supplemental:

"The President’s veto rightfully stands.  By voting to sustain the President’s veto today,  I stand for an America that should be free from the fear of terrorism, and an Iraq that can operate as a stable democracy.  I stand for victory in the Global War on Terror.  The President has asked for a bill that will provide the necessary funding for our troops without arbitrary benchmarks and deadlines.  That is precisely what I will continue to stand for.

"I refuse to stand for a Democrat policy that adopts defeat, ties the hands of our military commanders, and establishes an arbitrary date for retreat in Iraq.  I refuse to stand for an immoral policy that puts our brave men and women in harm's way, but then refuses to spend the money to give them the resources they need to safely return to their families.  I refuse to stand for a policy that will embolden our enemies and set America on a course for failure.  I refuse to stand before the brave men and women of our Armed Forces with anything less than unwavering support for their
mission."
