Statement by Congressman Emanuel on
Lobbying and Ethics Reform in the House

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Rahm Emanuel released the following statement following today’s announcement by Speaker Dennis Hastert.

            “A year ago this week, in a party line vote, the Republican-led Congress voted to strip the House Ethics Committee of its authority.  We have come a long way in one year.  Today’s announcement by Speaker Hastert that he is ready to work toward genuine lobbying and ethics reform is welcome and long overdue.  My hope is that it translates into a sincere effort to clean up this institution and make it work for the people we are elected to serve.”
