The funding will be used to research and develop safer insect repellents and insecticides to effectively prevent disease. Research components include analysis of vector groups, identification of unique species characteristics through genome sequencing, and testing of compounds to repel specific species. The military, in times of conflict or natural disaster, requires measures to protect soldiers and civilians from diseased insects.
