Amount Requested: $1,600,000
The funding will be used by Porter-Starke Services, Inc. to construct an 8,000 square foot behavioral center to meet the growing population in Portage, Indiana. It is projected that the new center would treat 4,700 individuals with behavior needs annually and employ a staff of 24. Untreated behavioral disorders lead to lower graduation rates, increased drug abuse, increased crime, increased unemployment, and increased rate of suicide. Porter-Starke is an accredited, Indiana Division of Mental Health & Addiction licensed, non-profit, 501(c)(3) community mental health center.
