WASHINGTON, DC – The Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority will receive $56,430 to upgrade the docks and facilities for the Drummond Island Ferry Services. The funding, announced by U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee), was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration.
“Upgrading the infrastructure of the Drummond Island Ferry Service will improve safety for passengers as well as provide a boost to the local economy,” Stupak said. “With the Great Lakes playing such a critical role in economic well-being of Northern Michigan, I am pleased to see the Department of Transportation investing in our waterways.”
The grant to the Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority was one of $2,462,049 in bus and bus facilities grants awarded to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) by the Federal Transit Administration. MDOT will distribute the grant money to the awarded transit agencies.
