| Mr. Speaker, yesterday the United States was attacked by cowards of terrorism. Their actions shocked this nation, making victims of thousands of innocent people and sending millions of people scrambling to determine if family members and friends were safe. Let it be known to those responsible that these actions are a declaration of war on the United States. This nation will respond, and this Congress will stand united with our president to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions. We will not rest until those responsible are found and punished.
Mr. Speaker, today as heroic men and women in New York and Washington continue to search for victims, we pray for the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones and those who still wait to receive word on the missing. Yesterday, after witnessing the horrors at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, citizens of this great nation demonstrated yet again why the United States won’t submit to terror. In my home State of New Jersey, thousands of residents came forward and contributed blood for the victims at the World Trade Center. So many of my constituents answered the call for blood that many had to wait in line for several hours before they were able to assist. Owners of ferry-boats in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey transported displaced workers trapped on the tip of Manhattan to a safer spot in New Jersey. Emergency personnel, doctors and nurses from New Jersey have worked around the clock to assist the courageous fire fighters and police officers in New York. The reaction to this tragedy by the American people is proof of how strong this nation is. That strength will guide us through this troubled time, and, in the end will make us a stronger nation. | |
