“President Joseph Coleman was a pioneer for this City.  As the first African-American to serve as President of City Council, Joe Coleman led by example.  He was soft-spoken, but a tireless fighter for the citizens of Philadelphia.  While the man will be missed, his acts of service will continue to live on in this city.
