More Americans are realizing what I have been hearing across the state of Tennessee, that an expansive cap-and-trade regulatory scheme would saddle Americans with a national energy tax and hurt American competitiveness. A new Pew Research poll shows that only 36 percent of Americans believe global-warming is man-made, down from 47 percent.

Congress often approves legislation without giving its Members or the American people a chance to read it. Earlier this year, the Democratic House leadership added hundreds of pages to the cap-and-trade legislation in the dark of night, essentially ramming through a $846 billion national energy tax that the public and Members of Congress did not have the opportunity to read. This is not a transparent or effective way to govern.

The CZAR Accountability and Reform Act of 2009, which I co-sponsored, will prohibit the President from appointing czars without oversight and consent from the Senate. I also supported amendments to spending bills to get rid of these czars but they were voted down on straight “party line” votes.

The Democratic health care reform bill being considered in the House pays for expanded health care coverage with so-called "savings" in Medicare. These savings amount to cuts to hospitals, physicians and home health agencies that provide essential Medicare services.

Local pharmacies have always been an integral part of our health care system. Pharmacists provide critical advice about how to properly take prescription medication, potential side effects of medicine, and drug interactions. And, as we look for ways to reign in the high cost of prescription drugs, we need to encourage competition among pharmacies.
