Community leaders to rally against unfair immigration
policies and practices

United States Representative Joe Baca (D-Rialto) will join local community and spiritual leaders at a rally tomorrow at the San Bernardino Immigration and Naturalization Service headquarters to protest what many people in the community believe has been unfair and harassing treatment of Latinos.

"This issue was brought to my attention by members of our community," said Baca. "People have reported to my office and to local churches that they have been the targets of harassment by immigration officials."

"At the request of my constituents, I am here to gain information about what has occurred."

"Local Latinos feel that they are being targeted simply because they are Latino, and for no other reason," said Baca. "That's called profiling, and we won't have it here."

WHO:Local community and spiritual leaders

WHAT:Rally to raise public awareness of local immigration and racial profiling issues and concerns

WHEN:Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 10:00 a.m.
