Baca applauds signing of Farm Bill by President

WASHINGTON - Representative Joe Baca (D-Rialto) issued the following statement today following the President's signing of the Farm Bill this morning. The bill is the product of over two years of negotiation between the chambers of Congress, the Administration, and the agriculture industry and interests. It includes the provisions that restore food stamp benefits to legal permanent residents that Baca advocated when the House passed his motion to instruct the Farm bill conferees.

"I was glad to see the President sign into law a bill that has so many provisions that are necessary for working farmers and families," Baca said. "It's not perfect, as the president said this morning, but it does provide aid for many farmers and working families who need it most."

"This bill provides $6.4 billion in nutrition programs. It restores food stamp benefits for legal permanent residents, children, and the disabled. And, it authorizes the Chino Dairy Preserve flood control project here at home."

"Our farmers and working families deserve a safety net to rely on in times of hardship. Working families, including farm families, feed our nation, and I will continue to support working farmers and families in Congress."
