IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DECEMBER 19, 2002 Baca Encourages Farmers to Take Advantage of Farm Bill Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Joe Baca today encouraged Farmers to sign up for major programs authorized in the recently enacted 200 Farm Bill this winter to avoid spring lines and delays at county offices. The USDA this week issued a statement in which Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman expressed concern that farmers would experience problems in receive benefits if they did not start the process now. April 1 is the closing date for farmers to update their basic yield and acreage information with the Department. "It's a good idea for Inland Valley farmers to head down to the county USDA office and begin signing up for farm bill programs," Baca said. "They'll have enough to do this spring without having to wait in line or by the mailbox for benefits." Farmers who wish to learn more about farm bill programs and options, or begin the process of signing up for Federal farm bill benefits, can contact the San Bernardino USDA offices at (909) 799-7407 (Redlands) or (760) 843-6882 (Victorville) or go online and visit www.usda.gov. # # # |
