WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Agriculture Committee today appointed Representative Joe Baca (D-Rialto) to serve on its Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry and Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittees.

The Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry Subcommittee is responsible for Department of Agriculture agency oversight; review and analysis; special investigations; food stamps, nutrition and consumer programs; forestry in general, forest reserves other than those created from the public domain; energy and bio-based energy production; and dairy. The Subcommittee had jurisdiction over the motion to instruct House Conferees on the Farm bill to restore food stamp benefits to legal permanent residents that Baca made and that the House passed last spring.

The Subcommittee has jurisdiction over issues of livestock and farm animal disease such as the Newcastle poultry disease poultry epidemic currently being dealt with across the Inland Empire.
