Rep. Baca Wins Funding for Transportation Projects

Washington, DCCongressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) announced that funding for important Inland Empire transportation projects has been included in the Fiscal Year 2007 Transportation Appropriations bill (H.R. 5576) which was passed by the House of Representatives today.  Rep. Baca requested the inclusion of these projects:

·         $750,000 for the City of Ontario for the I-10 / Grove Avenue interchange

The project will widen the Grove Avenue transportation corridor between I-10 and Holt Boulevard, and construct a full interchange at I-10 and Grove Avenue to accommodate increased truck traffic to the Ontario International Airport.

Congressman Baca said, “This funding will help relieve congestion and make driving safer for area residents.  As Ontario International Airport has become more popular for both passengers and air cargo, the area has seen more traffic.  This project not only alleviates the current traffic but also anticipates future needs. ”

·        $80,000 for the City of San Bernardino for the renovation of Boys and Girls Club - Delman Heights facility

The center plans on improving the facility to host entertainment and educational programs for local youth.  This funding will help pave a running track, refurbish the basketball courts with working baskets, add storage lockers, fix the roof, install phone jacks, and paint and landscape the facility.

Congressman Baca said, “The Boys and Girls Club provides wonderful activities for children, enabling them to learn and play in a safe environment.  This funding will make the center more attractive and enable it to better serve the needs of San Bernardino’s youth.”

He added, “I support Mayor Morris and his crime prevention plan.  Educational and recreational programs like those offered at this facility also are an important part of the efforts to reduce gang violence and youth crime in San Bernardino.”
