Baca appointed to the important House Resources Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House of Representatives Democratic Caucus announced Friday that it has appointed Representative Joe Baca (D-Rialto) to the powerful Resources Committee.

The Resources Committee oversees the Nation's public natural resources including national parks and monuments, recreational areas, and other public lands, and all measures and matters concerning water resources, including research and development programs.

Forests, energy and mineral resources, the generation and marketing of electric power from Federal water resources, and the management of fisheries, wildlife and oceans also fall under the jurisdiction of the Committee.

Native American issues are governed by the full committee instead of a specific subcommittee.

"I look forward to becoming a stronger voice for Native American needs and concerns through this committee membership," Baca said. "It is important that Congress protect the sacred lands and settlements of our First Americans and recognize the sovereign rights of Native people."

"The Resources Committee is also a valuable outlet to push for the responsible use and conservation of our natural resources," Baca said. "I am grateful for yet another opportunity to address issues such as water use and development that are important and will have a significant impact on the Inland Empire."
