WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Joe Baca (D-Rialto) today called to order the first meeting of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Corporate America Task Force. Baca currently chairs the task force that is committed to bringing diversity and Hispanic representation to corporations all across America. “A study came out today saying that Hispanics are the largest minority group in the country,” Baca said. “But you don’t see that representation in corporate America.” “There are 38 million Hispanics in this nation, yet there are few Hispanic CEO’s, chairmen, and board members. With this task force, we plan on exploring ways to bring diversity to the forefront of the business world,” Baca said. The Census Bureau figures, noted by Baca, indicate that Hispanics surpassed African Americans by less than one percent to become the nation’s largest minority. Baca said that the study represents the significance of the Hispanic community in America and demonstrates why the task force is desperately needed. “Hispanics make significant economic contributions in this nation,” Baca said. “We must explore ways to help Hispanics obtain senior management positions, and positions commensurate with Hispanic purchasing power. Our purchasing power is over $600 billion. A Hispanic presence in corporate boardrooms is something that is long overdue.” The task force agenda includes increasing diversity in corporate boardrooms, increasing corporate America’s procurement of goods and services from Hispanic-owned businesses, and creating mentorship programs for business- minded Hispanics. # # #
