WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Appropriations Committee of the United States
House of Representatives announced yesterday that Colton and Fontana
will receive appropriations funding in 2004 for a storm drain and a
baseball field respectively. The announcement came in the form of an
earmark listed in the Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban
Development appropriations bill.
The county of San Bernardino and the city of Colton are expected to receive $200,000 for the comprehensive storm drain plan, which will improve a drain at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The project is designed to mitigate storm water flows that impede the ability of emergency vehicles to access the medical center. Fontana’s Jack Bulik Park will also benefit from the 2004 appropriations bill by receiving $90,000 in funding for to complete phase two of the park’s construction. Included in phase two is the development of two softball and little league fields, one senior league field, a snack bar, a parking lot, and landscape improvements. It is expected to be the final park phase. “We have some exciting things happening in our cities and I am happy that we were able to secure funding for some vital projects,” Baca said. “With a population growth like we have in San Bernardino County it is hard for the appropriations committee to look at us and deny funding. With improvements to the drainage system and the recreational park, we are able to address two very important needs in the area.” ### |
