Financial Services Committee
Congressman Baca serves on the exclusive Financial Services Committee. The Committee oversees the entire financial services industry, including the securities, insurance, banking, and housing industries. The Committee also oversees the work of the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, the SEC, and other financial services regulators.
Congressman Baca serves on the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises and the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. The Capital Markets Subcommittee has jurisdiction over securities and insurance issues, and oversees Federal Home Loan Banks, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.
Congressman Baca’s key issues on the committee include expending access to financial institutions, addressing issues relating to predatory lending, federal deposit insurance reform, financial privacy and regulatory relief. He believes that Congress should do what it can to ensure that working families have increased access to affordable credit and to improve financial literacy so that they do not fall victim to the deceptive and sometimes fraudulent practices used by those looking to make a fast buck. Congressman Baca wants to make sure that working families can take advantage of financial opportunities to better prepare for their futures.
