Congressman Brian Baird Acts to Help "Less than Half Time" Students
Washington, D.C.— Higher education for those who balance work, family, and school will soon become more affordable thanks to the work of Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA-03).   On Thursday night, President Bush signed the College Opportunity and Affordability Act (H.R. 4137) into law.   The legislation includes an amendment offered by Congressman Baird that will direct the Secretary of Education to study the costs and benefits of making student aid available to those who attend school less than half time.   Currently, such students are not eligible for federal student loans.  The Secretary would also be required to make recommendations on how to best design a pilot loan program targeted to those students.   ...more
