Hill Announces Panelists, Agenda Details for 2008 Southern Indiana Economic Forum
(Washington, DC) - Congressman Baron Hill has released panelists and scheduling details for his 2008 Southern Indiana Economic Forum that will take place on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany. The forum, which will run from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., is open to the public and will cover a variety of issues. Panel discussions and presentations will focus on energy independence, housing and healthcare. The panelists will be open to questions from the audience upon conclusion of their presentation. USDA Announces $10 million in Funding for Damaged Hoosier Farmlands Farmers with land damaged by the recent flooding may be eligible
(Washington, DC) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has made $10,742,000 available to farmers and ranchers in Indiana to remove debris, restore fences, and repair conservation structures which may have been damaged by flooding or natural disasters since September 2007. The Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) funding was allocated in H.R. 2642, the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2008, which Congressman Baron Hill supported.

President Signs Toy Safety Bill into Law Bill increases funding and staffing size for the Consumer Product Safety Commission
(Washington, DC) - Late last week, President Bush signed H.R. 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, into law, which includes protections against faulty toy imports and improves consumer recalls. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection (CTCP), Congressman Baron Hill has been working diligently on this legislation to strengthen protections against dangerous toys since November 2007. Hill was an original cosponsor of the bill. His work in the Subcommittee led to the inclusion of a provision to improve all-terrain vehicle (ATV) safety.

College Opportunity and Affordability Act Signed into Law
(Washington, DC) - Late yesterday afternoon, President Bush signed H.R. 4137, the College and Affordability Act of 2008, into law. Congressman Baron Hill supported this bill earlier this year in the House. H.R. 4137 is a comprehensive reauthorization of the Higher Education Act that addresses rising college costs and removes various barriers to college enrollment.
