House Again Passes Foreclosure Prevention Bill with Hill's Property Tax Provision: Bill returns to Senate, then on to President

(Washington, DC) - Today the U.S. House of Representatives reconfirmed their support for the Foreclosure Prevention Act, H.R. 3221, which includes Congressman Baron Hill’s property tax relief language.  The most recent version of the comprehensive package contains an additional standard deduction of up to $500 ($1,000 for joint filers), on top of the basic standard deduction, for state, local and real property taxes.  Just this morning, the President dropped his veto threat of the bill and the Senate has vowed to take up consideration of it as soon as possible.  Therefore, the legislation could be enacted as early as this week.  ... view more

Hill's Property Tax Provision in Housing Assistance Bill Getting Closer to Enactment: Legislation will help many Hoosier homeowners

Extended Unemployment Benefits Already Going out to Eligible Hoosiers: Benefits part of latest emergency supplemental bill

(Washington, DC) - On June 30, 2008, the President signed into law a supplemental spending bill that includes extended unemployment benefits to assist workers with rapidly-rising gas and food costs while they continue to search for work in our lagging economy.  Congressman Baron Hill supported this legislation when it was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on May 15, 2008.  The bill makes available up to 13 weeks of extended unemployment benefits to workers exhausting the 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits.  ... view more
